My little boy always prefer physical play than sitting down at one place but to enhance his all round development it’s important to provide him with a range of toys for fine motor skills and not just physical play. Less is always more. So don’t buy out the entire store but keep minimal toys of various categories which help them have a different experience.
You could even try out rental library which can help you in rotating toys with your kids or you can form a small group within your own society and buy toys and rotate them within your group. Even simple household items like a sieve, a fennel or a spoon help those learning motor skills.
So a mix of household items, free play and toys can help in the overall development of your child. So here is a list of all the toys your child needs for their fine and gross motor skills!!!!
Toys for Fine Motor Skills and Gross Motor Skills
Don’t be scared if your child colors your entire wall or his clothes. This is their age to learn, create and explore. Let them have fun and don’t restrict them instead provide them with large crayons set, pencils, chalk, watercolors, washable markers, clay etc.
Stacking and building toys
All kinds of blocks work well, stacking cups rings, shape sorters, nesting blocks, building blocks. Young kids can have mega blocks while older kids can have small blocks like Lego which can enhance their creativity, fine motor skills, and imagination.
Toys with Pattern
Like felt boards or magnetic boards are very important for precise hand movements and careful hand skills. These can be arranged and played in different ways helps in enhancing the child’s imagination skills.
Toys like balancing boards or balancing bikes. Balance toys help in gross motor skills and also improves the muscle strength in the body. It builds legs strength enhances motor skills and physical growth in the child. Balancing bikes are a great way for large motor skills and also to learn to balance in early age. Even before giving cycles to your kid try giving them these balance bikes.
Toys which needs your brain wires to connect, think, manipulate and contemplate. These toys makes them think and then act . Like those jigsaw puzzles, lace cards, foam puzzles or laced farm boards. Toys with interlocking pieces.
- Use toys which are child-friendly and eco-friendly.
- Toys with hazardous parts should be avoided always read the manual before buying toys for your kids.
- And always know that less is more, declutter their play area keep it clean, discard broken and old toys they only make more mess.
- Let your child chose their toys when they want to play.
- Rotate the toys on weekly basis and buy new toys only after keeping away one old one.
This is how I love raising my boy, helping in his all round development. Let me know in case of any doubts or if you want to know more options in these categories. I would love to answer them.
