A school has a huge impact on a child’s educational achievement, their scientific knowledge. The basic skills taught in schools lay the foundation for subjects like physics, geography etc. schooling process has a significant impact on the development of children both academically and societally.Especially during the middle childhood years there thoughts and dreams are shaped with the kind of environment they are brought up in. Schools impart content and purpose across countries that impart knowledge and skills to enable them to participate in society’s functions.
The Indian education system is improving every day. Earlier we had 64.04 literacy system but this year we recorded 74.8 literacy percentage which is a huge leap. India has also seen a major rise in IB boards entering the system apart from the CBSE and state boards. There are IB world schools and Cambridge schools and their education is world class with students being deployed to the foreign universities to study. They come back with the rich experience of culture and knowledge. The only problem with these IB boards is they are very expensive and beyond the reach of the common man but what if told you there is still a boarding school which imparts interaction British Curriculum and the fee structure is nothing compared to the Kind of education being imparted. This is in fact the Best Boarding School in India King’s College
Coming from the Legacy of King’s College Taunton, UK this college based on Rohtak is for day Boarders and Hostelers.
I had the privilege of visiting King’s College which is based in Rohtak just 50kms from Delhi. Went there with my husband and my son. The drive was smooth and amazing. We reached there in no time. the school is based right on the NH9 and was not difficult to locate. Upon entry we were given identity cards and also a detailed entry was made. The security was too good. While walking I could see the massive campus on both sides of my way and felt like I am entering a University and didn’t feel like this is exists in India. Miss Pooja who handles the marketing and admissions took me around and showed the entire campus, she also explained me about the kind of staff, options provided to the kids and the curricular activities going on here.
I also met Mr. Soumyabrata Mukherjee who is Assistant Head of School Academics and HOD science. He explained about the main motto behind the school. How he has had an experience with other IB schools but the standards set out here are world class. He also told about the orphanage Liki Ram which is being supported by this school and how students go and spend time there with the kids and also invite their friends to spend time at their own campus too. He also showed me around, inside every classroom showing the things that are in place to deliver about what they promise. That’s why they are amongst the Best Boarding school in India.
The Teaching Staff!!
Led by Experienced British Staff as well as Indian staff, this school has a mixed culture and thus providing best of both the worlds.
While visiting the primary classes, I met Miss Claire Whyte who heads the Primary wing. I was astonished by the kind of confidence she showed about the curriculum they hold. The pride she had in her kids and also the kind of activities they do in the classes. I was amazed at the amount if practical learning the kids are having in the school. Like while teaching about castles she told them to ask what questions came into their mind while looking at the castle. And how creative the questions were like Why is the castle made so big, why is it above the river, why is the particular color chosen to build the castle etc. they even made castles at home using their imagination and stuff available at home. Now, this is what is called practical learning.
Same goes for teaching words so Magingo Storas was the word build out of imagination using Mango, Flamingo, and dinosaurs. Also, Strawbaby Shrails. The Numbers department had some serious KiddPreneur thing going on. While the kids were busy getting ready for the stalls they would put in the carnival that day. They were even prepared for the goals and achievements, they had a plan in place, targets to achieve and also sure of the kind of money they will make out of the stalls. I was quietly wondering if we had the same kind of education what an amazing set of talented kids we would be. I have recorded a small snippet while she explained the details in the classroom. I hope you enjoy watching this!!!
After an inspiring meet with her, I was told not to forget to meet Miss Tanzy Troy who heads the Early Years and I will be completely blown away. So I waited for her because she was a bit busy with the carnival going on that day. But the wait was worth it. I cannot tell you how magnificent I felt, she is an exceptional lady with fine skills of handling Early years, As we all know the right foundation is the way to a world-class career and after meeting her I can say that the kids are in the best hands.
There is play-based learning, festivals celebration in their own cute way, Library with a very cute little corner where the kids can relax and read, there is activity board, desks where the kids can experience touch and feel. The culture is bristish as well as indian. After meetign her i was certainly sure of the standrds put here and conifdent of thte fact that Its the Best boarding School in India
My meeting with the Headmaster
I had the lovely opportunity to meet The headmaster of the school Mr. Brendan Canman is a man of Dignity and Substance. He is very confident of the school curriculum, very proud of his teachers and let them explore and teach in the best possible way keeping in mind the happiness quotient. His motto is to impart skills which students learn for life!!! I have recorded a small snippet of my meeting with him.
It’s a spurring 21-acre campus with huge basketball, volleyball, tennis court. Cricket and football pitch. There were facilities for skating and swimming too. I don’t think any school can match the campus and the kind of atmosphere they provide.
Mr. Anshul Kumar – The Chairman says “ Kids who travel abroad for good education should be provided the best out here itself and that is why they have come up with this “
HeadMaster Brandan Says “ My only motto is kids must be provided with a happy environment so that they feel like coming to school every day if they are happy in school they will definitely love learning what they are taught”
In fact the music lessons are being taught by the Headmaster himself who says that the community who sings together is a happy community
The best about this school
It is the blend of the British and Indian culture which I really liked, with teachers from Abroad as well as India the kids will have a wholesome experience learning from the experiences of both the worlds. The learning is not textbook driven but experienced driven, their main motto is kids are learning everywhere whether at home, school, park or vacation. they don’t need textbooks to learn but hands-on experience and that could be seen in their classrooms. The subjects were designed interconnected through project rubrics.
The curriculum includes subjects as well as languages from both the worlds and cultural activities which can be enabled through music, arts, dramatic and sporting talent. In fact, they have dedicated teachers to children with special learning needs.
They also encourage our pupils to develop an understanding of the complex, wider world around them. Active participation in community activities and charitable work will ensure they develop a strong sense of social awareness and responsibility. At Kings College India students will learn the skills they need for life!we will be offering high-quality pastoral care and a huge range of sporting and extra-curricular opportunities designed to educate the whole child – body, mind, heart, and spirit.
The huge open Amphitheatre for kids cultural program, performing arts, drama and other open sports. It also enables aesthetic sensibility and respects each other’s cultures and festivals. The school timetable is such that kids have a mix of academics study, recreation, and exercise. Games are an important part of their curriculum along with music and arts.
I visited the hostel rooms and they have every basic need kept in place for the kids. The rooms were big, with ample of sunlight, they had recreational area. The food menu was amazing with a Mix of healthy options like Sausages, Dalia, cutlet, upma for breakfast to Brown rice, paneer, chole for lunch and soup, daal, fish, chicken for dinner.I am sure the kids who stay there have a gala time exploring the campus and living with friends.
UK Exchange Program
A group of 20 students and 3 staff members took an exciting international exchange program and visited King’s College and King’s Hall Taunton, UK. They undertook a comprehensive set of activities coordinated by colleagues of Mr. Biggs, Headmaster of King’s College Taunton. They had the opportunity to participate in a full range of classroom-based curriculum activities including EnlgisScience and drama. They also took part in sports like badminton, cricket, netball, tennis, volleyball. While there stay, they explored Southwest of Beautiful England including its stunning coastline, outstanding National Parks, famous gardens, Somerset Country Club and other tourist attractions like National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth. Also, this visit was during Diwali so the Kids performed a special program for their friends in Taunton. This culturally rich exchange program brought back lots of memories from the visit and the students are really excited to welcome their friends in Taunton to here in India.
